Our country China has put forward the more strict requirements for paper tableware from the source, such as all raw material must choose food packaging level base paper, polyethylene of the food packaging level and paraffin of food grade level, and so on. All enterprises must not use the recycled waste for production, and the selection of additives also must not use fluorescent whitening agent, industrial paraffin wax and industrial talcum powder, and so forth. Thus the government puts forward specific requirements for the raw materials supplier of paper cup, paper bowl and paper lunch box, even the contaminated scrap material, leftover materials in the workshop must not be used for paper cups raw paper production and processing. All raw materials and additives must meet the requirements of food packaging grade. In the new law of the Paper Cup national standards, the printing position for paper cup is put forward for the first time in history, which demands "within the 15 mm from the cup edge to the cup body, and within the 10 mm from the cup bottom to the cup body should not be printed".
The issue of this new requirement has provided a strict and practical demand for many biodegradable dinnerware manufacturers in China. And this is absolutely good news for all consumers, because we feel more assured on the safety of daily food. The international food packaging association thinks that the new law of series national standards for paper tableware has stricter regulation for the raw material, additive, printing, and mark etc. This not only puts forward higher request to the production enterprises' production and operation activities, and it provide national standard basis for government regulation to paper tableware.
The association thinks that the new national standards still have some shortages. In the requirements, it just put forward the request of using resin coating for paper bowl and paper lunch box, it doesn't put forward the classification level and use requirements as the paper cup standards. Therefore, as for how to define paper bowl and paper lunch box, this is still a mess thing for some enterprises. Take the paper cups and paper bowls as an example, the raw material and production process is basically the same, but the paper bowl with a less volume should concretely apply to the paper cups standard or paper bowl standards, this is a question. We can't clearly judge that from the standard itself.
As for the unit of capacity, the new national standard uses "ml" for indication. The international food packaging association advises that the product labeling mark content should try to be understandable, and they must conform to the state standards requirement index, the export products should be marked according to the requirements of the import countries, the products that sold in China, should try to mark the "ml" that most consumers can understand, or the ounce and ml can be marked at the same time.
The secretary-general of international food packaging association thinks that, now, the new national standard for disposable paper tableware is though recommendatory, but under the condition that we have no mandatory national standard, if enterprises and regulations etc. once use this standards then it will become a mandatory one. But no matter how strict the standards are, it is just the quality verification from the end of products. What matters is that all enterprises should rely on self-discipline, and try to carry out and implement the standard, so as to let consumers use the assured products.
